I’ve just purchased this book from Hatje Cantz over a week ago. It’s a great project by Wolfgang Scheppe, a collective of students from the IUAV University in Venice. The topic of the book was originally to archive thousands of photographs, case studies, movement and statistics in Venice. By mapping, plotting and using syituationist psychogeography they discovered that Venice tourists are deeply linked to the huge influx of illegal immigrants. It is a very well presented book with great detail into the lives Venice’s illegal immigrants. It asks the questions: Where are they from? why Venice? and do they have any economic value? Looking into the lives of illegal immigrants and their stories gives very empathetic view on the lives of illegal immigrants. However very detailed data is overlaid with their stories to create a more analytical approach to the situation.
